Ahra

Ahra, also written Arhra, was the Phoenix Lord of the Striking Scorpions, who fell to Chaos and is remembered by the Aeldari as the Fallen Phoenix. He is named among the founding Asurya, the first Aspect Warriors, who took up the Path of the Warrior after Asurmen and established the shrines that the Asuryani still maintain. Like the other Phoenix Lords, he belonged to no single craftworld and was bound to no fixed homeworld. The Striking Scorpions were the shrine he founded, and his betrayal is the principal reason the office passed to another.

The accounts of his career are sparse and differ in emphasis. He is recorded as the founder of the Striking Scorpions, a shrine whose warriors fight as ambushers and close-quarters killers, and he is said to have led it in a manner marked by ferocity. His fall to Chaos is the central event of his record, though the precise date and circumstances are not firmly established. Karandras, then an Exarch of the shrine, is recorded as his most able pupil; the two are said to have fought a duel lasting seventeen days, after which Karandras took up the Scorpion armour and became Phoenix Lord in Ahra’s place, redirecting the shrine towards stealth and restraint. Phoenix Lords are recorded as having stood on opposing sides in the wars between craftworlds known as las’raichan bhlarmhori, the “battle of the undying”, and two of these are stated to have involved Ahra.

Ahra’s standing among the Aeldari is that of the Phoenix Lord who fell: his disgrace defines the Striking Scorpions’ present character, and his successor Karandras is set against him in the surviving tradition. Drukhari belief holds that he became the Dark Father of the Incubi, the warrior cult of Commorragh, although this is a claim of that culture and is not confirmed elsewhere. His present fate is unknown. Later tradition holds that every Phoenix Lord will fight and die at the Rhana Dandra, the final battle between Chaos and the material universe, and his role in that reckoning, if any, is not recorded. On Orrery he is best read alongside the Phoenix Lords, the founding Asurya, and Karandras, and his fall is anchored to the Fallen Phoenix entry on the timeline, with no single location attached.
