Canis Rex

Canis Rex is a Questoris-class Imperial Knight, formerly sworn to House Terryn, that now wanders the Imperium’s frontier as a Freeblade. Its name, drawn from Imperial Gothic, marks it as a hunter set loose from its household’s leash — a fitting record for a war machine no longer bound to a single noble line.

Accounts of its service describe a scion of House Terryn taking up the throne mechanicum after a forebear fell, only for the Knight to be cut off from its household’s muster in the fighting that followed. By the old custom of the Knight worlds, a scion separated from home for too long is reckoned a Freeblade, owing no fealty until oaths are renewed. So severed, Canis Rex fought on across the Imperium’s contested frontier, standing against Ork WAAAGH! incursions, Chaos raiders, and other threats to Imperial worlds that could offer it neither muster nor home, only the coin or cause of the moment.

Canis Rex belongs to a wider company of Freeblade Knights — errant war machines of many houses, Terryn among them — who sell their guns to Astra Militarum regiments, Adeptus Mechanicus forces, and beleaguered Imperial settlements alike. Its record is bound not to one house’s roll of honour but to the frontier itself: a Knight met at the edge of empire, wherever an Imperial world stands encircled and in need of a blade it did not swear for.
