Emperor’s Spears

The Emperor’s Spears are a Chapter of Space Marines within the Adeptus Astartes, sworn to the Emperor’s defence of the Imperium of Man.

Like the greater number of the Adeptus Astartes’ many Chapters, the Emperor’s Spears maintain the customary structure of a fortress-monastery, a Chapter Master, and companies of Space Marines organised for war, recruitment, and reserve. The Chapter’s name and its martial iconography of the spear place it within a long tradition of Astartes heraldry that proclaims a fighting virtue through its title — in this instance, a doctrine of directness, the driving strike delivered at the point of greatest need. Accounts of the Chapter’s founding, its parent gene-line, and its home world have not reached the wider Imperium with the consistency afforded to older and more storied orders, a circumstance shared by a great many Chapters raised across the later Foundings.

What can be said with confidence is that the Emperor’s Spears stand among the active defenders of Imperial space in the present era, one Chapter among the many thousands answering the Imperium’s call in the age after the opening of the Great Rift. They are understood to follow the Codex Astartes or a variant tradition derived from it, placing them among contemporaries such as the Imperial Fists, the Black Templars, and the Crimson Fists — Chapters whose long-documented campaigns stand in contrast to the comparative quiet of the Emperor’s Spears’ own record, a gap that later chronicles may yet close.
