Gilbear is an officer of the Tanith First-and-Only Imperial Guard regiment, featured in later novels of the Gaunt’s Ghosts series. He is recorded among the regiment’s command staff during the period following its expansion with Verghastite personnel, a merger that reshaped the unit’s officer corps after the original Tanith-only formation was augmented by survivors of the siege of Vervunhive.
