Lord Invocatus

Lord Invocatus is a World Eaters Chaos Lord who commands the Fire Riders, a warband built around ceaseless, mobile assault. The warband’s name reflects its guiding principle: it does not hold ground or fight from a fixed position, favouring rapid strikes and constant movement over siege or attrition. Invocatus leads from the back of Khal’guruth, a juggernaut of Khorne, and his reputation rests as much on the speed of his campaigns as on their violence.

Accounts of his origin diverge. Some traditions hold that Invocatus is among the last survivors of the War Hounds, the Legion’s designation before its fall into the worship of Khorne; others describe him as a comparatively recent traitor with no service in that earlier form. Both his signature wargear and his command were won rather than granted: he claimed the Bloodstorm Helm and Khal’guruth itself on the Road of Eighty Bloody Steps, a trial recorded as having tested him against successive challengers. He fights with two named blades, Coward’s Bane and Trickster’s Doom, and measures his campaigns in an accumulating tally of skulls taken for Khorne.

Invocatus’s tempo has made him a controversial figure among his own kind. Other World Eaters regard his refusal to linger over a battle, or to run down a single fleeing survivor, as a form of cowardice unbecoming of Khorne’s chosen; Invocatus is recorded as rejecting the criticism outright, stating that he will not spend a week hunting one man. This dispute over method, rather than any doubt about his kills, defines his standing within the Legion.

His recorded campaigns include the seizure of the Deathwatch armoury at Ebon Vale, which he removed to his own holdings rather than destroying outright, and the destruction of the Rengar Hrud fleet, an engagement from which he alone walked out. Both actions place him in direct conflict with the Imperium’s elite xenos-hunters and with a named enemy formation, giving his warband a documented presence beyond the World Eaters’ internal disputes over honour and method.

Invocatus remains active, and rumour within the Legion holds that he has since attained daemonhood, though this remains unconfirmed. Whatever his ultimate fate, speed rather than endurance continues to define his method of war, setting the Fire Riders apart from the World Eaters’ more typical pattern of prolonged, close-quarters slaughter.
