Lysette

Lysette is a character in the Eisenhorn novella The Magos, linked in the narrative to the physician Valentin Drusher and to the retainer Gershom.

Within the story, she is presented as a member of the civilian community of the settlement in which Drusher practises, drawn into the periphery of Eisenhorn’s undercover enquiry when Gershom, operating in support of the Inquisitor’s assumed identity, has dealings with Drusher’s household. Her part in events is that of a bystander to the investigation rather than an active participant in it, and the novella does not attribute to her any formal standing within either the Magistratum or the Inquisition.

Lysette’s significance is confined to The Magos, where she contributes to the depiction of ordinary civilian life against which Eisenhorn’s clandestine investigation unfolds. She holds no wider role in the Eisenhorn material beyond this novella, and her ultimate fate is not established beyond the events described there.
