Mephet’ran

Mephet’ran, styled the Deceiver, is a C’tan, or star-eater, credited with persuading the Necrontyr to abandon their flesh through biotransference. It is also known as the Messenger and the Jackal God. It is regarded as physically the weakest of the C’tan.

After offering the Necrontyr biotransference, Mephet’ran turned the C’tan against one another. It survived the civil wars it had instigated by remaining at their margins. Its shards, the fragments into which the C’tan were divided, continue to act on the belief that they direct events. One shard assumed the appearance of Omegon and attempted to lead Alpha Legionnaires into work on the pylons that would have closed the Rift, to the C’tan’s advantage. Occam confined that shard in a tesseract. Another shard concealed itself within Nephreth on Serenade until an escape attempt involving Trazyn and Orikan went awry.

Mephet’ran’s standing rests on persuasion rather than strength. It convinced an entire species to discard its bodies, and its shards remain active in the affairs of the galaxy. The shards do not act in concert, and each pursues its own ends.
