Nayl is introduced as an independent bounty hunter operating on the fringes of Imperial society before being drawn into the service of Gregor Eisenhorn, an Inquisitor of the Ordo Xenos, during the investigations recounted across the Eisenhorn chronicles. Distinguished by practical combat skill, marksmanship and experience navigating the criminal underworld rather than by psychic ability or scholarly training, he is recorded as taking an active role in confrontations with heretics, xenos threats and Chaos-tainted adversaries alongside Eisenhorn’s other acolytes. Accounts of the period describe him surviving repeated serious injury during these engagements, a trait that reinforces his standing as one of the retinue’s most physically resilient members.

Within the Eisenhorn narrative, Nayl represents the retinue’s practical, worldly element, complementing colleagues drawn from scholarship, psychic discipline or ecclesiastical background.
