Battle of Shemnoch
The Battle of Shemnoch was the decisive engagement of the Crusade of Steel, fought in 900.M41 on the Necron tomb world of Shemnoch by the Iron Hands and their successor Chapter the Brazen Claws under the command of Kardan Stronos. The full might of both Chapters was committed against the dynasty of the Necron Overlord known as the Crimson King, of the Novokh Dynasty, master of a C’tan Shard called the Crimson God. When the Necrons launched a massive counter-attack, Stronos refused to fall back and instead led Clan Garrsak in a headlong lightning assault on the dynasty’s leader, striking a mortal blow against the Crimson King that shattered the Necron command structure. In desperation the Necrons loosed a Transcendent C’tan against Clan Raukaan; the burning star-god hurled tanks through the air and reduced battle-brothers to ash until Venerable Furnous gathered the clan’s Dreadnoughts into a single wave and charged it. Several of the Chapter’s most ancient heroes fell, but the C’tan was torn apart and the dynasty of Shemnoch was destroyed. One account dates the Crimson King’s defeat to 990.M41, and another places the campaign on the world of Sazalor.
