Battle of the Mountain

The Battle of the Mountain was the final and, at the same time, the first violent episode of the compliance of Aghoru, also catalogued as 28-16, in 999.M30. Aghoru was the fifth planet of an otherwise dead system, and the compliance up to that point had already been counted a diplomatic success. The Mountain itself was an artificial peak that the inhabitants treated as a prison for spirits, and within it stood a warp-corrupted gate guarded by ancient Revenant Titans. These Titans were possessed and attacked the Thousand Sons. Magnus the Red led the Thousand Sons against the possessed Titans and other malign entities, supported by a contingent of Space Wolves. Ahzek Ahriman was present, having earlier led a search for Magnus against his express order not to be disturbed. The daemon Choronzon confronted Magnus directly and attempted to tempt him, without success. At the close of the fighting, Ahriman and the Space Wolves, among them the Rune Priest Othere Wyrdmake, turned on the corrupted weapon-forms and warp-entities still active on the field. Ahriman is not recorded as having slain Choronzon or as having sealed the gate. The battle ended in an Imperial victory. Magnus sealed the warp-corrupted gate and declared that the Legion’s business on Aghoru was finished.
