Clearing of the Gildar Rift
The Clearing of the Gildar Rift was a Silver Skulls campaign against Huron Blackheart’s Red Corsairs across the worlds of the Gildar system. Companies of the Chapter entered the Rift as an act of Chapter duty against the Chaos-aligned warband, and within weeks of opening the campaign the Silver Skulls judged the Rift free of Chaos taint — a claim later qualified by events on Gildar Secundus rather than fully overturned. The campaign opened with a void engagement in which Red Corsairs Executor-class grand cruisers were destroyed, breaking the warband’s hold on the system’s approaches. The surviving Red Corsairs withdrew to the Rift’s settled worlds, among them Gildar Secundus, choosing to consolidate on the ground rather than contest open space a second time. Command of the Silver Skulls purge passed to Arrun, whose fleet pressed the pursuit from world to world until the Chapter’s own charts recorded the Rift as cleansed of the warband’s presence. The campaign’s decisive moment came on Gildar Secundus, where Arrun’s forces closed on Huron Blackheart himself. Huron escaped the ensuing duel, withdrawing with enough surviving renegades to remain a presence in later accounts of the region, even as the wider Red Corsairs contingent in the Rift was broken and scattered. The Silver Skulls maintain that the Gildar Rift was cleared, a judgement Huron’s escape leaves open to qualification. Gildar Septimus, one of the outer worlds in the eight-world count of the Gildar system, stands among the theatre’s settled worlds touched by the purge, situating the campaign within the system’s wider geography alongside Gildar Secundus and the Rift’s other inhabited worlds.
