Departure of Corvus Corax
The Departure of Corvus Corax was the withdrawal of the primarch of the Raven Guard from the fortress-world of Deliverance into the Eye of Terror, in the uncertain years after the Horus Heresy. After Roboute Guilliman relieved Terra, much of the Imperium did not know whether Corax had survived the war. During the Great Scouring that followed, he was the only surviving loyal primarch who did not sit upon the Grand Council of Reconstruction, standing outside the Imperium’s command structure. By the time Corax had rebuilt his shattered Legion, the Heresy had ended, and Guilliman’s Codex Astartes required that the Legions be divided into Chapters. Corax accepted the vision and divided his own forces accordingly. He could not, however, forget the mutated Raptors he had created, and after hours of deliberation he gave the Emperor’s peace to those who remained, praying for their souls and for his own. Wracked with guilt, Corax shut himself within his chamber in the Ravenspire on Deliverance, begging the Emperor’s mercy. Whether he found absolution is unknown. A year to the day later, he left the tower and Deliverance, setting a course for the Eye of Terror; his last recorded words were ‘Never more.’ He was not seen by the Imperium again. One account presumes his departure came shortly before the apparent death of Rogal Dorn, though the chronology between the two events is uncertain. Later accounts tell of Corax, transformed by the warp into a being of shadow, hunting the Traitor primarchs and duelling Lorgar upon an unnamed Word Bearers daemon world in the Eye of Terror.
