Escape from Cano’var

The Escape from Cano’var was a breakout by prisoners of the Necron Overlord Zahndrekh on Cano’var, a former T’au world, from which the White Scars Captain Kor’sarro Khan and the Aeldari Ranger Illic Nightspear emerged as the only survivors. Accounts date it variously to 813.M41 and 831.M41. Cano’var, lightly defended, had been overrun within two weeks by Necrons of the Sautekh Dynasty under Zahndrekh. Kor’sarro had been sent to launch a punitive raid against the T’au on Cano’var, but on arrival found the world already held by the Necrons. His Thunderhawk gunship was shot down and, after stubborn resistance, he and his warriors were taken prisoner. Learning that he was one of dozens of captives, Kor’sarro planned an escape with Illic Nightspear, a Ranger of Craftworld Alaitoc who had been trailing the Necrons to study them and had also been captured. The breakout went well at first, but the escaping prisoners were confronted by Zahndrekh’s Vargard, or bodyguard, Obyron and his guards. Kor’sarro and Nightspear were left as the only survivors and fought Obyron together, and both were defeated. Zahndrekh had watched the whole battle; impressed by Kor’sarro’s courage and skill, he allowed both of them to leave.
