Fall of Crucible

The Fall of Crucible was the conquest of the Imperial mining world of Crucible by the Emperor’s Children under the daemon primarch Fulgrim, early in the forty-second millennium. Crucible lay close to the Great Rift; its population extracted precious minerals and worked promethium refineries. Fulgrim, through his messenger Mauvais, had appeared before the Perfecti warband of the Emperor’s Children and led them to the assault, together with Knight-Commander Marduk Tamaris. The defenders were Cadian Shock Troops, Kasrkin, the local planetary defence force, and Black Templars under Castellan Garrian and the Emperor’s Champion Johannes Berengar. Their defence of Crucible’s citadel inflicted heavy losses on the Emperor’s Children, and Castellan Garrian died in it. Displeased, Fulgrim prompted the sorcerer Mauvais and Tamaris to destroy the citadel’s water supply. The Emperor’s Children then launched a renewed assault led by Fulgrim himself. The last defenders were overrun or went over to the Emperor’s Children, and Tamaris killed Berengar. After the fall Fulgrim was declared king by citizens who had converted to Chaos and by his own warriors, and he declared a new crusade to liberate the people of the Imperium from the Emperor. Tamaris was named overseer of Crucible, and feared that Fulgrim would soon lose interest and move on.
