Liberation of Urdesh

The Liberation of Urdesh was a major campaign of the Sabbat Worlds Crusade fought to wrest the forge world of Urdesh from the Anarch Sek. Urdesh’s standing as one of the Sabbat Worlds’ principal manufactories made it a strategic prize for both sides: its forges could arm a crusade or a heretic host in equal measure. When the world fell into the hands of Anarch Sek and his Sons of Sek, reinforced by Blood Pact regiments and allied cults, the Crusade’s Warmaster committed a substantial portion of his Imperial Guard, adepta and naval assets to its recovery, recognising that Urdesh’s continued loss would cripple the Crusade’s wider logistics. Massed Astra Militarum formations, among them the Tanith First-and-Only under Ibram Gaunt, were drawn into the fighting alongside Urdeshi militia and Adeptus Mechanicus forces defending their own manufactory holdings. The campaign unfolded across Urdesh’s fortified hive-forges and culminated in a prolonged assault on the Urdeshic Palace, the seat from which the Anarch had directed the occupation. Imperial forces eventually broke the siege and reclaimed the palace and its forges, restoring Urdesh to Crusade control, though accounts hold that Anarch Sek himself escaped the fall of his stronghold rather than being captured or slain. The liberation is remembered as a costly but decisive turn in the Sabbat Worlds Crusade, reaffirming Imperial control of a key forge world while leaving Sek at large to continue the war against the Crusade in the worlds beyond Urdesh.
