Overlord Wars

The Overlord Wars were fought on Barbarus; no year is recorded for the conflict. After leaving Necare’s keep, Mortarion joined the human villages that lived amid the poisonous fog of the lower mountains. He drove off a lesser warlord’s undead with a scythe, then trained villagers into an elite force, later known as the Death Guard, fitting them with crude respirators and leading them into the fog to kill the mountain warlords. The peaks and Necare’s keep remained beyond the villagers’ reach. The lower mountains were taken, but the last keep was not taken until the Emperor’s arrival, a separate event.
