Pacification of Thennos

The Pacification of Thennos was a campaign of extermination waged by the Iron Hands against the insurgent population of Thennos, an Adeptus Mechanicus research world in the Sthenelus System, the Chapter’s home system, some time before the Gaudinian Heresy of 460.M41. Although Thennos was held to be sovereign territory of the Mechanicus, it lay under the protection of the Iron Hands, and when its people rose in insurrection the Chapter answered with fire. The rebels followed corrupted members of the Mechanicus led by a figure known as the Prophet Alpha, and the Iron Hands found on the world a taint that offered something beyond the purity of cold logic and the machine. The Chapter’s commanders included the Iron Fathers Kristos of Clan Raukaan, Tubriik Ares of Clan Garrsak and Verrox of Clan Vurgaan, and Ares was carried to war in a Land Raider Anvilarum. Kardan Stronos, newly transferred from Clan Vurgaan to Clan Garrsak as its Tenth Sergeant, made planetfall by drop pod at the head of his squad. On Thennos he was almost killed by Kristos, who damaged his helmet and forced him to breathe the world’s toxic atmosphere; afterwards his lungs were replaced with bionics and a metal tube took the place of his mouth and nose. The neophyte Arven Rauth was also badly wounded fighting the Prophet Alpha.
