Scattering of the Raven Guard

The Scattering of the Raven Guard, known in the Chapter’s annals as the Scattering, was the dispersal of the Raven Guard across the Imperium ordered by Chapter Master Kayvaan Shrike in the forty-second millennium (M42), after the opening of the Great Rift. Shrike summoned the Chapter’s command to the Ravenspire, its fortress-monastery on the moon Deliverance, and there informed the assembled officers that the Chapter was to be distributed from the Imperium Sanctus to the remotest regions of the Imperium Nihilus, the half of the galaxy severed from Terra by the Rift. Each Shadow Captain, the title borne by the Raven Guard’s company commanders, received secret orders and set out towards goals known only to Shrike. The Scattering was followed by Shrike’s resignation as Master of Shadows, the title of the Raven Guard’s Chapter Master. Judging himself unsuited to high command and insufficiently versed in all three elements of Corax’s Trifold Path of Shadow, he appointed the former 1st Company Captain Aethon Shaan as his successor after Shaan’s victories over the Genestealer Cults of Gelvia, the Iron Warriors in the Strigneth System and the Orks at Aescia II, all won with minimal loss of life. Shrike afterwards returned to the captaincy of the 3rd Company.
