Second Rubric of Ahriman

The Second Rubric of Ahriman was a ritual cast on Sortiarius, the Planet of the Sorcerers, by the exiled sorcerer Ahzek Ahriman and his cabal in an attempt to reverse the first Rubric, which had reduced most of the Thousand Sons to dust sealed within their armour. No year is recorded for the casting. Accounts place it after Ahriman’s long exile from the Legion and before his search for the Black Library during the 13th Black Crusade at the close of the 41st millennium. Ahriman intended to give his own life to restore his brothers. The ritual was disrupted by the sorcerer Astraeos and by several shards of Magnus the Red pursuing purposes of their own, and amid the confusion the sorcerer Knekku seized the energies Ahriman had released and used them to restore the shattered mind of Magnus. One account holds that the plans for the working had been placed in Ahriman’s mind by Magnus himself, who used the ritual to recombine with many of his scattered shards; only the shards that represented his noblest qualities were lost to him. A single Rubric Marine, Helio Isidorus, was afterwards found to have been restored to life. He proved to be the vessel of the Pyrodomon, a sentient warp affliction that turned sorcerers into Rubricae and caused existing Rubricae to combust. Ahriman later used the Necron device known as the Key of Infinity to return to the moment of the casting and prevent Isidorus’s restoration. In the altered course of events the Second Rubric was still cast and still failed, but the Pyrodomon was not created, and Ahriman fled Sortiarius a second time to seek the Black Library.
