War of Dakka

The War of Dakka was a conflict in the Damocles Gulf between Ork forces and the T’au under Commander Farsight, lasting from the 900s.M41 into early M42. On the T’au side it was fought first by forces of the T’au Empire and later by those of the Farsight Enclaves. The war began when Grog Ironteef, Warboss of the Ork Empire of Alsanta, declared war on the T’au Empire after T’au forces came to the aid of their Kroot allies, whom he had been fighting. He strengthened his firepower with Tankbustas, Flash Gitz and the Freebooterz of Kaptin Badrukk, used feigned retreats to ambush T’au hunter-killer teams, and took three T’au sept worlds in a single year. The dating of Grog’s part is uncertain: he is recorded as having been killed during the Farsight Expedition of about the 750s.M41, and is also described as active in 998.M41. After his death the Orks split into many warbands. The Warboss Nazdreg Ug Urdgrub later reunited them and attacked the Farsight Enclaves, and by the time of the Great Rift he held strongholds on both sides of the Gulf. Farsight answered with the Way of the Short Blade, a doctrine of point-blank, hit-and-run firefights, and with a recovery corps of Air and Earth caste personnel who stripped battlefields of the wreckage the Orks used to build weapons. The Orks lost many strongholds. On learning that Nazdreg’s Mekboyz, Ork engineers, had built a teleport weapon called the tellyfragga, Farsight attacked Dregrokk, the Ork capital world, without waiting to regroup. T’au warships cut the orbital space elevators, and while Nazdreg expected Farsight on the northern front, Farsight landed from a Manta in Dregg City with the Eight, his council of senior commanders, to destroy the weapons. With Bravestorm he fought Nazdreg aboard the battlefortress Gitcrusha, which imploded when its shokk projectors were destroyed. Nazdreg vanished into the vortex and was presumed dead, and the Orks on Dregrokk fell to infighting. The arrival of a Chaos fleet led by the Daemon Prince Ughalax aboard the Ark of Omen Unhallowed brought the war to an end and drew Farsight’s forces into the Arks of Omen campaign.
