Revilers

The Revilers are a Second Founding Space Marine Chapter and successor of the Raven Guard, raised largely from veterans of the Drop Site Massacre.

The Revilers are one of a small number of Chapters sired from the gene-seed of the Raven Guard when the original Space Marine Legions were divided into smaller Chapters after the Horus Heresy. Their founding ranks drew heavily on veteran survivors of the Raven Guard’s Legion, including those who endured the Drop Site Massacre at Isstvan V. That inheritance shapes the Chapter’s temperament: the Revilers pursue an enduring vengeance against the traitors who turned on the Raven Guard that day, above all the Alpha Legion, against whom the Chapter wages a long, largely unseen shadow war. No fortress-monastery or homeworld of the Revilers’ own is firmly recorded; the Chapter is associated on record with the Deliverance sphere, home system of its progenitor Chapter, though no independent world is attested for the Revilers themselves, and its posture is better understood as fleet- or campaign-based than fixed to one world.

Following the example of Corvus Corax’s Legion, the Revilers organise along the Codex Astartes and field grey power armour marked in white with a silver imperialis, their badge a skull in profile upon a lightning bolt. Doctrine favours stealth, ambush and rapid manoeuvre over frontal assault or attrition, with Close Support Squads, Land Speeders and Assault Bikes used to harass, sabotage and strike key targets; the Chapter is noted as well suited to jungle and inclement-weather warfare.

Recorded campaigns span several millennia. The 6th Company deployed by camouflaged drop pod onto the Plains of Azoth in the Azoth Drop of 999.M37, a costly action against a Warp-touched Inquisitorial renegade. Accounts differ on the date of the Battle of the Gorgon Deeps, fought alongside the Red Seraphs Chapter against an Ork invasion of the Orpheus Sector, remembered as a lengthy running space battle ended by a Terminator boarding action. The Chapter is also recorded in the Baran War (914.M40–224.M41), the Lithon Purge of 833.M41 against Drukhari raiders, and the Krandor Rebellion of 853.M41, fighting alongside the Imperial Fists and Fire Lords to secure Imperial artefacts before an Exterminatus was enacted. During the Thirteenth Black Crusade of 999.M41 the Revilers contributed a force smaller than a company to the defence of the Cadian Gate, and in the Haedrax System the Chapter is recorded as having broken several Alpha Legion cells.

The Chapter’s standing rests chiefly on its long rivalry with the Alpha Legion and its kinship with the Raven Guard, whose methods of stealth and ambush it has preserved and refined. Its contribution to the wider Imperial war effort has often been disproportionate to its numbers, and its shadow war against the Alpha Legion continues to be recorded into the closing years of the 41st millennium.
