Ardamantua
Ardamantua is an Imperial world remembered chiefly as the site of a catastrophic Ork onslaught during the War of the Beast in the early 32nd millennium. Its deeper history within the Imperium is not well attested; what survives in Imperial record concerns almost exclusively the invasion that overtook it, one of the opening horrors of a conflict that would eventually threaten Terra itself. No canonical galactic coordinates for the world are recorded, and later Imperial cartography treats it chiefly as a name attached to a single, terrible episode rather than as a settled point on any standard chart.
At Ardamantua a garrison force built around the Fists Exemplar, a Successor Chapter of the Imperial Fists, was thrown against a Waaagh! of a scale few in the sector had anticipated. Accounts differ on the precise course of the fighting, but the outcome is not in dispute: the Chapter was reduced to a remnant, its losses among the first clear evidence that the Ork threat then gathering across the Imperium was of an altogether different order to the raids of preceding centuries. The disaster at Ardamantua entered later report alongside other early catastrophes of the War of the Beast as a marker of how swiftly the Imperium’s frontier defences could be overwhelmed once the Beast’s full strength was unleashed.
The fate of the Fists Exemplar at Ardamantua drew the attention of Thane Bardan Koorland, Chapter Master of the Imperial Fists and later the Imperium’s first Lord Commander, who is recorded as investigating the losses suffered by Dorn’s Successor Chapters during the war’s opening campaigns. Through that inquiry Ardamantua is bound into the broader narrative of the War of the Beast and the scrutiny it brought upon the Imperial Fists successors, though the world’s own condition and status after the invasion are not clearly attested in surviving Imperial record.
