Armatura

Armatura was a training world of the Ultramarines Legion within Ultramar, associated with the Shadow Crusade of the Horus Heresy era. It is remembered chiefly for the martial instruction conducted there in preparation for extended campaigning beyond the bounds of the Five Hundred Worlds.

As with other proving grounds maintained by the XIII Legion, Armatura provided facilities for the drilling of aspirants and the seasoning of newly raised companies prior to their deployment on active service. Such worlds formed part of the broader logistical and training apparatus that Roboute Guilliman established to sustain Ultramar’s expanding military commitments in the decades before the Heresy.

Armatura’s association with the Shadow Crusade reflects the wider commitment of Ultramarines strength to compliance operations beyond Ultramar’s borders during the period immediately preceding the Word Bearers’ assault on Calth. The world’s training cadres and garrison forces accordingly numbered among the resources drawn upon to sustain the Legion’s campaigns during this phase of the Horus Heresy.
