Black Gulf

The Black Gulf is recorded as the location of the Black Gulf Mines, though no segmentum or coordinates are attested, leaving its place in the galaxy unplaced. No parent world or forge-world status is recorded for it; the Black Gulf exists in the chronicle solely as the setting of the mines and of what took place there.

The Black Gulf Mines are chiefly remembered as the target of an attack led by Cypher after he became leader of the Zargosoan Smuggler Fleet. Accounts of the raid agree on this much but go no further: no date for the attack is recorded, nor any description of what the fleet carried or how large it was. The purpose behind the strike is also uncertain. It may have been aimed at one of the Fallen believed to be present at the mines, but this remains a possibility raised in the record rather than a settled fact, and it should not be treated as confirmed.

Beyond this single episode, the Black Gulf has no other attested history. No second engagement, garrison, or later custodian of the mines is recorded, and no wider campaign is known to have drawn in other forces. For the Orrery’s map and timeline, the Black Gulf therefore stands as an isolated point tied to one occasion and one notable name, Cypher, rather than a location with an ongoing presence in the galaxy’s unfolding story.
