Bone Coast

The Bone Coast is a coastal region of Gershom, an Imperial world within the Angelus subsector of the Scarus Sector. It takes its name from the extensive deposits of bleached skeletal remains, both natural and archaeological in origin, that mark its shoreline and lend the district its forbidding aspect. The region is associated with the wider misfortunes attending Gershom, a world whose fortunes declined amid heresy and institutional corruption during the later years of the Angevin Crusade’s aftermath.

Within Imperial administrative memory, the Bone Coast is chiefly noted for its role in events surrounding the Inquisitorial investigations conducted by Gregor Eisenhorn, an officer of the Ordo Xenos of the Holy Inquisition. His enquiries into heretical activity connected to Gershom brought him into contact with the coastal settlements and their populace, whose isolation and grim economic circumstances made the area a locus of clandestine and proscribed activity. The coast’s remoteness from central Gershomite authority is consistently attested as a contributing factor in the concealment of such practices.

Little further is recorded of the Bone Coast’s governance, demography, or economy beyond its association with these events. It is understood to have remained a peripheral and lightly administered district of Gershom, its notability within Imperial record owing almost entirely to its incidental role in matters of Inquisitorial concern rather than to any intrinsic strategic or economic significance.
