Davin’s moon

Davin’s moon is a jungle-covered satellite of Davin, noted as the site of Warmaster Horus’s grievous wounding early in the Horus Heresy. Orbiting the Imperial compliance world within the same system, it was sparsely surveyed by Imperial authorities and remained largely outside direct administration by the Davin planetary government. Its affiliation is commonly placed within the same sector as Davin itself, though no precise galactic coordinates for the satellite are consistently attested.

The moon supported a feral human population descended from earlier settlement or shipwreck, organised around a secretive fellowship known to Imperial chroniclers as the Serpent Lodge, centred upon a ruined temple complex given to serpent-venerating rites. During the Sixty-Third Expedition’s compliance of Davin, elements of the Luna Wolves — whose officer corps maintained an informal warrior lodge of their own — travelled to the moon at Horus’s instigation to observe the native lodge’s practices. In the temple precinct, the Warmaster was struck down by Xavyer Jubal, a Lodge initiate, wielding a warp-corrupted serpent-tooth blade known as the Anathame.

The wounding proved near-fatal and is widely regarded by chroniclers of the period as a pivotal moment preceding the Horus Heresy, precipitating the Warmaster’s prolonged convalescence and the covert intervention that is held to mark the beginning of his corruption. Following the incident, the moon’s temple site was destroyed or abandoned by order of the expedition fleet, and the satellite subsequently receded from recorded Imperial activity. Its name persists chiefly in accounts of Horus’s fall rather than in any continuing strategic or administrative significance.
