Farness Beta pylons

The Farness Beta pylons are a complex of ancient xenos installations on Farness Beta, studied covertly by the renegade Inquisitor Quixos. They belong to a broader class of enigmatic pylon structures found across the Imperium, generally understood to be of non-human, pre-Imperial origin and associated with the dampening or channelling of warp phenomena. On Farness Beta, the structures had drawn the attention of parties whose interest in them extended well beyond legitimate Imperial sanction.

Quixos, an Inquisitor of the Ordo Xenos who had abandoned his oaths in pursuit of forbidden knowledge, made the pylon works a focus of his clandestine operations. His investigations there formed part of a wider pattern of heretical research pursued across the Helican sub-sector, in which xenos artefacts and technologies of uncertain provenance were acquired, catalogued, and in some cases turned to purposes far removed from their original function. The pylon works represented one node in this network of illicit enquiry.

The site subsequently featured in the investigations of Inquisitor Gregor Eisenhorn, whose pursuit of Quixos forms a central thread of Dan Abnett’s Eisenhorn novels. As with much of Quixos’s activity, the true extent and purpose of the work conducted at the Farness Beta pylons remained only partially understood even by those who uncovered it, consistent with the fragmentary and often unreliable nature of Inquisitorial records concerning heretical research.
