Gethsemane

Gethsemane is a hive world in the Gothic Sector, the namesake of its subsector and the site of a major naval battle in 151.M41. A hive world is a planet whose population is concentrated in vast, densely inhabited urban structures.

In 151.M41, during the Gothic War, Lord Admiral Ravensburg brought a major Chaos fleet to battle at Gethsemane after having sought such an engagement. The Chaos forces drew Ravensburg into a crossfire, and he narrowly survived it. When the Chaos ships attempted to withdraw, the An-Iolsus Corsairs intercepted and destroyed them.

The engagement did not end the Gothic War. It was, however, the first occasion on which Abaddon’s naval offensive in the sector was decisively broken, and it remains the principal reason the Gethsemane system is recorded in accounts of the conflict.
