House Glaw estate

The House Glaw estate was the ancestral manor of House Glaw, a noble merchant dynasty of Gudrun, within the Gudrun system. As the family’s principal residence, it housed generations of accumulated wealth, archives, and collections amassed through the house’s long involvement in trade and exploration, and functioned as the seat of its social and commercial standing on Gudrun.

The estate figures prominently in the account given in Dan Abnett’s novel Xenos, in which it is drawn into an Inquisitorial investigation led by Gregor Eisenhorn. It served as the seat of Pontius Glaw, a forebear of the house whose prolonged and Chaos-tainted existence linked the family to a conspiracy surrounding heretical archives, most notably the forbidden text known as the Necroteuch, and to associates including the renegade Inquisitor Quixos. The estate’s cellars and hidden precincts, where such matters were concealed from wider Imperial scrutiny, became the focus of Eisenhorn’s inquiry.

The events at the estate proved ruinous for House Glaw, exposing the family’s complicity in heresy and precipitating the house’s disgrace. Within the Eisenhorn cycle, the estate is remembered chiefly as the site at which the conspiracy centred on Pontius Glaw and the Necroteuch was uncovered, an episode of lasting consequence for the inquisitor’s subsequent career.
