Hyades

Hyades is a promethium-producing jungle world in the Segmentum Obscurus, under the protection of the Space Wolves. Promethium is a fuel, and House Belisarius mines it there. The jungle canopy regrows faster than settlers can clear it by burning.

The world was the setting of a conflict involving Ragnar Blackmane of the Space Wolves (also called the Sons of Fenris), the Dark Angels, and the Reptos tribes, whom the Thousand Sons had stirred to action. Cadmus’s planetary defence force (PDF) learned that the involvement of two Space Marine Chapters, together with xenos proxies, made the conflict considerably more than a border skirmish.

Hyades remains notable as the jungle world associated with Ragnar Blackmane. The name also appears elsewhere. It is distinct from Deep Hyades-VI, and from the later Hyades of the Nihilus civil war in *Angron: The Red Angel*. This entry records the Segmentum Obscurus world connected with the Space Wolves, and it retains that identity even though another novel later reused the name.
