Molech Warp Gate

The Molech Warp Gate is a subterranean warp portal beneath the surface of Molech, encountered during Horus’s campaign on that world in the early Horus Heresy. It lies within the deep works that honeycomb the planet, structures that long predate the Imperium’s arrival and whose builders remain unrecorded. The gate itself is described as a standing threshold rather than a mere anomaly: a worked structure through which the immaterium presses close to realspace, rather than a natural warp rift.

The gate’s exposure is bound up with the wider confrontation at Molech covered elsewhere as the Molech Gate and Horus on Molech, in which Horus’s household and allied forces moved to secure the world and, in doing so, disturbed what lay beneath it. Proximity to the gate is associated with the grievous wounding Horus suffered during the fighting, and with the warp’s subsequent intrusion into his recovery; later tradition holds that his survival owed as much to what passed through the gate as to any surgeon’s art. Accounts differ on how deliberately the gate was sought out, and how much of its nature was understood by those who found it.

No settled account places the gate on any wider map of Molech, and its exact chamber or depth is not fixed in the record available; it is treated here as an unplaced feature of the world rather than a located site. Its status following the Heresy is likewise unrecorded, and whether it remains open, sealed, or lost beneath Molech’s surface is not attested. The gate is remembered chiefly for the single episode that made it significant, standing as the subterranean counterpart to the battles fought in the light above.
