New Cadia

New Cadia is the name attached to proposals for a successor homeworld for the Cadian diaspora after the destruction of Cadia in 999.M41. It is not a confirmed, settled world in its own right but a recurring aspiration among Cadian survivors and their allies: that the shattered fortress-culture of Cadia might one day be given a new seat within or near the ruins of the Cadian System, the gap in the Cadian Gate left by the planet’s annihilation at the climax of the Thirteenth Black Crusade. As such, New Cadia belongs as much to the story of Cadian identity after the Fall as to any single mapped location.

The idea traces directly to the loss of Cadia itself, when Abaddon the Despoiler’s forces broke the fortress world and the opening of the Great Rift scattered its garrisons across the wider Imperium. Whiteshield companies, veteran Kasr regiments, and civilian refugees who escaped the world’s destruction found themselves without a homeworld to return to, many absorbed piecemeal into the reconstituted Astra Militarum during Roboute Guilliman’s Indomitus Crusade. Among these survivors, and among the remembrancers who kept Cadian tradition alive in exile, proposals circulated for a resettlement within the wreckage of the home system or on a nearby world still holding the line against the Chaos-held territories spreading from the Eye of Terror, so that Cadian martial culture might be renewed with a physical seat rather than persist only as a fighting tradition carried by scattered regiments.

Accounts differ on how far any such resettlement has progressed, and no world is uniformly recognised across Imperial record as New Cadia in a formal sense. Later tradition holds the name as shorthand for this unresolved hope, tied conceptually to the Cadian System and the Cadian Gate cluster even where no confirmed colony bears it. In this respect New Cadia sits alongside other post-Fall Cadian institutions, such as the Whiteshield levies and the reconstituted Cadian regiments serving across the Imperium, as evidence of a people whose identity has outlasted the loss of their world.
