Ouranberg

Ouranberg is an industrial hive world within the Sabbat Worlds, prominent as the principal setting of Dan Abnett’s Gaunt’s Ghosts novel Blood Pact. By the time of the narrative it had been reduced by prolonged warfare to a ruined landscape of shattered manufactoria and habitation stacks, its atmosphere thickened by industrial pollutants and the residue of sustained bombardment.

Control of Ouranberg was bitterly contested between Imperial forces and the Blood Pact, the fanatical soldiery serving the Archon Anakwanar Sek, one of the principal warlords opposing the Sabbat Worlds Crusade. The Tanith First-and-Only, under Colonel-Commissar Ibram Gaunt, were committed to operations on the world as part of the wider Crusade effort to dislodge Chaos forces from the sector.

The fighting on Ouranberg centred on a covert Imperial effort to extract a high-value defector from within the Blood Pact command structure, an operation bound up with the broader pursuit of intelligence regarding Sek’s forces and intentions. The world’s role in this episode of the Crusade is attested chiefly through its depiction in Blood Pact, rather than through wider campaign literature.
