Outer Udar

Outer Udar is an outlying district of Gershom, an Imperial world within the Angelus subsector of the Scarus Sector. It forms the more remote and sparsely settled portion of the wider Udar region, standing apart from the comparatively populous and closely administered area known as Inner Udar. As with much of Gershom, the district’s later notability derives chiefly from its incidental role in matters of Inquisitorial concern rather than from any intrinsic strategic or economic importance.

The district is chiefly attested in Imperial record through its association with the Inquisitorial investigations conducted by Gregor Eisenhorn, an officer of the Ordo Xenos of the Holy Inquisition, into heretical activity connected to Gershom. Outer Udar’s isolation from Gershom’s central authority, and the thinness of Ecclesiarchal and administrative oversight extended to it, are consistently cited as factors that permitted clandestine and proscribed activity to persist there undetected for a considerable time. Its terrain and settlement pattern set it apart from the more closely governed Inner Udar, rendering it a natural refuge for those seeking to escape scrutiny.

Little further is recorded of Outer Udar’s governance, demography, or economy beyond its association with these events. It is understood to have remained a peripheral and lightly administered part of Gershom, its place in Imperial memory owing almost entirely to the disorder uncovered there during Inquisitorial enquiry rather than to any settled account of its own affairs.
