Pluto batteries

The Pluto batteries were a network of orbital defence platforms stationed at Pluto during the Solar War. They formed part of the layered outer-system fortifications erected to guard the approaches to Terra against the forces of the Warmaster Horus, sited at the edge of the Sol System alongside other watch stations and strongpoints charged with detecting and delaying any hostile incursion long before it could threaten the Throneworld.

When the Traitor invasion fleet entered the Sol System, the outer defences, including the Pluto batteries, were among the first Loyalist assets to engage the attackers. Positioned far from the reinforcement and repair capacity available closer to Terra and Mars, these outer-system garrisons faced the initial weight of the assault largely in isolation, buying time for the inner system’s defences to mobilise fully.

The Pluto batteries are remembered as part of the opening phase of the Solar War, illustrative of the scale and desperation of the Sol System’s defence against Horus’s assault. Their engagement is recorded chiefly as a prelude to the wider and better-documented battles fought closer to Terra during the same campaign.
