Port Wander

Port Wander is a Rogue Trader gateway station on the approaches to the Koronus Expanse, a principal Imperial anchorage before the Koronus Passage. It is recorded as a large, long-established void installation where vessels bound for the Expanse gather, resupply and are repaired before making the transit. Its position on the frontier of settled Imperial space places it within the wider sphere of the Calixis Sector and the Screaming Vortex, though Orrery does not attest fixed galactic coordinates for it, and it is therefore held unplaced on the map.

The station’s importance derives from the trade it serves. The Koronus Expanse lies largely beyond the direct administration of the Imperium, and it has been explored chiefly under the warrants of Rogue Trader dynasties, who hold licence to trade, survey and make war in the Emperor’s name. Port Wander is described as the point at which such expeditions outfit, recruit crew, engage Navigators and Explorators, and sell the cargoes and discoveries of earlier voyages. Authority over the port is generally presented as divided among Imperial officials, the charter-holding dynasties, and the ecclesiastical and Mechanicus interests that maintain a presence there; accounts differ on which party is dominant at any given time, and no single ruler should be assumed.

In the timeline, Port Wander belongs to the Rogue Trader era of the forty-first millennium, when expeditions into the Expanse were the principal reason for the station’s prominence. Contemporary neighbours on the graph include the Koronus Expanse itself, the Rogue Traders who sail from it, the Calixis Sector, and the Imperium of Man as the nominal sovereign power. The station remains an active gateway in the present era, and it is best understood as a place of departure and return, as no single campaign is securely attested as having been fought there.
