The Fang

The Fang is the fortress-monastery of the Space Wolves Space Marine Chapter, hewn into a mountain of the same name on the Asaheim continent of Fenris. Known to the Chapter and its Fenrisian thralls as the Aett, it is reckoned the largest and most heavily fortified stronghold maintained by any Space Marine Chapter, its halls, forges, and reliquaries descending far beneath the mountain’s icebound flanks. It serves as the Space Wolves’ primary seat, mustering ground, and spiritual centre, standing apart from the scattered Great Companies that range across the Fenris System and beyond.

Tradition holds that the mountain was claimed as a stronghold in the earliest days of the Chapter’s founding by Leman Russ, primarch of the VI Legion, and that its deepest vaults still guard relics and remains from that era. During the Horus Heresy, the Fang endured a heavy siege by traitor Legiones Astartes forces who struck at Fenris while much of the Space Wolves fleet campaigned elsewhere, a defence later remembered within the Chapter as proof that the fortress could hold even when its sons could not stand beside it. In the millennia since, the Fang has weathered further assaults, including incursions linked to the Space Wolves’ ancient enmity with the Thousand Sons, and has been steadily expanded and reinforced by generations of Iron Priests.

The fortress today houses the Chapter’s armouries, its starport and drydocks, the Hall of the Wolf King where the Great Wolf holds council, and the catacombs of the Underverse, where the honoured dead of the Rout are laid to rest and where tradition places the sleeping form of Russ himself. Aspirants who survive the trials of the Fenrisian wild are brought to the Fang for training and gene-seed implantation before joining a Great Company, binding the mountain to every Space Wolf’s personal history. As the seat of Great Wolf Logan Grimnar and the point from which the Chapter answers Imperial summons, the Fang remains bound to Fenris, to the Wolf King’s memory, and to the wider Fenris System it watches over.
