Urdesh forges

The Urdesh forges are the great weapons-manufactory districts of the forge world Urdesh, in the Sabbat Worlds. As one of the Imperium’s principal centres of arms production within the region, Urdesh’s forge complexes supply matériel to Imperial Guard regiments and other forces engaged in the protracted Sabbat Worlds Crusade, and their control has been regarded as a matter of significant strategic consequence.

The forges are sited within extensive urbanised and industrial districts characteristic of a forge world under the purview of the Adeptus Mechanicus, whose tech-priests oversee manufacturing, maintenance and the sanctioned rites of production. The scale and output of these districts have made Urdesh a target of sustained military interest, with the forges themselves, and the infrastructure supporting them, forming a focal point of conflict during the world’s contested history.

The Urdesh forges feature within the Gaunt’s Ghosts series of novels by Dan Abnett, in which the fighting for control of Urdesh and its industrial heartlands forms a central episode of the wider narrative. Their depiction there reflects the broader significance attributed to forge-world manufacturing capacity within accounts of the Sabbat Worlds campaign.
