Volpone

Volpone is an Imperial world best known as the homeworld of the Volpone Bluebloods, an aristocratic regiment of the Astra Militarum. The world’s noble houses maintain a long tradition of martial service to the Imperium, and its levies are raised, equipped, and officered in a manner reflecting the patrician character of Volpone society.

Regiments drawn from Volpone, most notably the Volpone 50th, are noted for their disciplined bearing, fine equipment, and pronounced sense of aristocratic privilege, which has frequently set them apart from regiments raised on less affluent worlds. This distinction in temperament and resources has been a recurring source of friction with troops of humbler origin serving alongside them.

Volpone’s regiments feature prominently in accounts of the Sabbat Worlds Crusade, where their service alongside other Imperial Guard formations, including the Tanith First-and-Only, is documented in the Gaunt’s Ghosts novels of Dan Abnett. Through these accounts, Volpone is chiefly known to posterity as a source of soldiery rather than as a setting for events of the Crusade itself.
