Watch Fortress Erioch

Watch Fortress Erioch is a Deathwatch fortress-monastery in the Jericho Reach, the order’s principal base in that frontier region. The Deathwatch, the Ordo Xenos-aligned military order that draws Space Marines from many Chapters into mixed kill-teams, maintains Watch Fortresses across the Imperium. Erioch serves as the Reach’s institutional centre, housing the order’s command, its armouries and the Watch Captains who assign kill-teams to operations. The fortress is recorded as a place of continuous vigil rather than a conventional garrison, in keeping with the order’s charter to watch for and destroy xenos threats.

The Jericho Reach lies beyond the established borders of the Imperium, on the far side of the warp anomaly known as the Jericho Maw. It became reachable to Imperial forces late in the forty-first millennium, when a crusade was launched to reclaim and survey the region. The Deathwatch established Erioch as its base of operations in this period. The Reach is contested by Orks, Tyranids, Chaos forces and other xenos powers, which is why the order concentrated its strength there. Accounts differ on the details of the fortress’s founding and physical setting, and Orrery does not assign it a fixed galactic position.

On the Orrery map, Erioch is anchored to the Jericho Reach, and its timeline hooks are tied to the Deathwatch and to the crusade that opened the region. Its contemporaries are the Imperial Army, Navy and Inquisition elements that campaigned in the Reach, and the Chapters that seconded battle-brothers to the order. Its present status is that of an active fortress, and the order’s vigil there is recorded as continuing.
