Atrius

Atrius Ventanus was a captain of the Imperial Fists who commanded a relief force during the Signus Campaign of the Horus Heresy. He held Legion rank prior to the Heresy’s escalation into open civil war and is chiefly known through accounts of the Imperial Fists’ intervention in the Blood Angels’ defence of the Signus system.

Accounts of the campaign describe the Blood Angels, under the primarch Sanguinius, becoming embroiled at Signus Prime in a defence against a Neverborn incursion associated with the daemon Ka’Bandha, during which elements of the Legion succumbed to a corrupting affliction linked to their gene-seed flaw. Ventanus is recorded as leading a small Imperial Fists contingent sent in response, operating alongside Blood Angels officers during the crisis. His conduct during the engagement is presented in later tradition as characteristic of Imperial Fists doctrine, emphasising discipline, fortification and measured tactical judgement in contrast to the volatile state of the forces he supported.

Within the historiography of the Horus Heresy, Atrius Ventanus is of note chiefly as a rare documented point of direct cooperation between the Imperial Fists and Blood Angels Legions prior to the war’s wider fracturing of the Legiones Astartes. His role at Signus is treated as illustrative of inter-Legion relations in the conflict’s early phase, rather than as a campaign of strategic significance to the Heresy’s broader outcome.
