Nemiel

Nemiel was a Chaplain of the Dark Angels Legion during the Horus Heresy, remembered for his death at the hands of Lion El’Jonson. He began his life on Caliban as an Aspirant to the planet’s knightly Order, training alongside his close companion Zahariel before both were inducted into the Dark Angels Legion following the Order’s absorption into the Emperor’s Great Crusade forces.

Within the Legion, Nemiel rose to the rank of Chaplain, a role charged with upholding the spiritual and disciplinary conduct of his battle-brothers. Following the destruction of Caliban and the schism that saw Luther and a portion of the Order turn against the Legion, accounts describe Nemiel as troubled by the secrecy surrounding the fate of those who had fallen with Luther, and by the conduct of the search subsequently mounted to recover them. His pursuit of the truth is recorded as bringing him into direct confrontation with Lion El’Jonson, the Dark Angels’ primarch, an encounter from which Nemiel did not survive.

Nemiel’s death is treated in later tradition as emblematic of the culture of secrecy that came to define the Dark Angels Legion in the wake of Caliban’s loss, particularly regarding the Fallen and the primarch’s role in concealing their fate from the wider Legion. He is remembered chiefly as a companion figure to Zahariel within the Legion’s early history rather than for battlefield distinction.
