The Parasite of Mortrex

The Parasite of Mortrex is a winged Tyranid organism that implants juvenile creatures, termed Rippers, inside living prey. Using hooked appendages, the creature inoculates victims who remain mobile long enough to retreat behind their own lines. The implanted broods subsequently hatch from within the host’s body, consuming the carrier and establishing nests within fortified positions.

The organism first demonstrated this capacity on Mortrex, an Imperial fortress world. By introducing parasites into defending troops, the creature caused the Imperial command structure to dissolve into nests as carriers returned to their lines before the juvenile broods emerged.

Following the conflict on Mortrex, the Tyranid collective consciousness, known as the Hive Mind, preserved the creature’s template as a designated strain. Other war zones have subsequently reported the presence of identical specimens, establishing the bioform not as a conventional duelling opponent, but as an airborne vector for implanting broods within hostile forces.
