10th Black Crusade

The Tenth Black Crusade, the Conflict of Helica, took place in 001.M39 in the Helica Sector. Abaddon allied with the daemon primarch Perturabo: in exchange for a war waged against the Iron Hands, Perturabo opened a warp route past the Cadian Gate. Abaddon sent the Black Legion fleet against Thracian Primaris, the capital world of the Helica Sector, as a feint intended to occupy Imperial defenders; that world was distinct from the Helican hive world that shares its name. He himself travelled with the Iron Warriors and their primarch to Medusa, home world of the Iron Hands, and from aboard the Vengeful Spirit watched as they burned the outer worlds of the Medusa system. The Iron Hands of Medusa held long enough for support to approach, and Abaddon and the Iron Warriors withdrew before that support arrived. Medusa itself still stood at the crusade’s end, though in the course of the campaign Abaddon had learned the nature of its defences. The result of the Tenth Black Crusade is accordingly recorded as a retreat by the forces of Chaos.
