Angevin Crusade
The Angevin Crusade was the thirty-ninth-millennium Imperial campaign that conquered and organised the region later known as the Calixis Sector. It is recorded as having been launched from the Golgenna Reach with the sanction of the Adeptus Terra, pushing outward through the Ophelian Gulf to bring the worlds of the Calyx region under Imperial rule. The crusade took its name from its commanding Lord Militant, Angevin, whose fleets and regiments answered a mandate to close the region against xenos incursion and warp turbulence and to draw its scattered human worlds into the Imperial fold. The campaign is described in later chronicles as decades rather than years in duration, its Navy battlefleets and Astra Militarum regiments contesting hostile xenos holdouts, feral and lost human colonies, and the treacherous warp routes that threaded the region before they could be declared safe for regular transit. Scintilla emerged from this fighting as the crusade’s principal foothold and was subsequently raised to capital world of the territory it had won, while other conquered systems, among them Ophelia and Malfi, were bound into the new administrative order taking shape in the crusade’s wake. Accounts differ on the precise chronology of individual engagements, but tradition holds that the crusade’s core phase unfolded within the thirty-ninth millennium before tapering into a longer pacification. In the crusade’s aftermath the conquered territory was constituted as the Calixis Sector, governed from Scintilla under a Lord Sector whose title and administrative machinery trace their origin to the crusade’s command structure. Angevin’s name persisted into later ages as the sector’s founding reference point, invoked in charters and genealogies even as the frontier the crusade had opened, most notably towards the Koronus Expanse beyond the Maw, remained imperfectly secured. The Calixis Sector’s subsequent history of governance, faith, and conflict is conventionally read against this crusade as its founding event, the moment at which the region first entered the Imperium’s record.
