Battle barge sacrifice ends Acheron
The destruction of Acheron came when Gabriel Angelos, Chapter Master of the Blood Ravens, ordered the battle barge Dauntless, under Captain Balthazar, to crash into a fissure in the planet’s crust, shattering the world. The account comes from the licensed video game Dawn of War III. Acheron, a world that emerges from the warp every five thousand years, had drawn the Blood Ravens, the Biel-Tan Eldar of Farseer Macha and the Orks of Gorgutz ’Ead ’Unter into a contest for the Spear of Khaine. The Spear proved to be a Khornate trap: when the Autarch Kyre took it, his death released a Bloodthirster, later named the Storm Prince, that had been sealed beneath the ice. At Macha’s urging, Angelos sacrificed the Dauntless and those aboard; Macha teleported him and Gorgutz clear before impact. The break-up of Acheron cut the daemon off from the souls slain there, and the three commanders, in an alliance of necessity, banished it before parting. Gorgutz took the shattered Spear as a trophy.
