Battle of Armatura

The Battle of Armatura was fought in 007.M31 on Armatura, an Ultramarines fortress and training world, during the Shadow Crusade of the Horus Heresy. Word Bearers under the primarch Lorgar and World Eaters under the primarch Angron attacked the world; their commanders included Khârn, Argel Tal, and Lotara Sarrin. The defenders were the Evocati under Legatus Orfeo Cassandar, the Academy Guard, and Titans of Legio Lysanda. The attacking fleet included the ships Conqueror, Fidelitas Lex, Blessed Lady, and Trisagion, together with Titans of Legio Audax. Two Abyss-class ships, the Blessed Lady and the Trisagion, broke Armatura’s orbital defences and allowed the attackers to land. On the ground, Khârn, among other World Eaters, gave way to the Butcher’s Nails, and the advance became confused; at Valika Junction his 8th, 20th, and 67th companies were cut apart. Both Lorgar and Angron were nearly killed in the fighting: a Warhound Titan of Legio Lysanda, Ardentor, struck at Lorgar, and Angron held the Titan’s foot to stop it. The Legio Audax Titan Syrgalah, under Princeps Venric Solostine, harpooned Ardentor in turn; Solostine was later killed in the battle. During the fighting, Khârn found Angron’s chainaxe Gorechild, discarded by the primarch, and ordered it taken away for repair. He duelled Legatus Orfeo Cassandar, and when the Traitors had taken the plaza where the duel was fought, Angron himself took the killing of Orfeo, and Khârn withdrew. The defenders of Armatura were exterminated. Khârn fought on the surface, but he did not command the campaign; Angron and Lorgar did.
