Battle of Constanix II

The Battle of Constanix II was a raid conducted by the Raven Guard Space Marine Legion against the forge world of Constanix II during the Horus Heresy, after its ruler, Magos Delvere, allied with the Word Bearers and set the planet’s manufactoria to the production of daemon engines. Constanix II was unusual in that its population dwelt within vast city-barques that sailed through the skies rather than in fixed settlements, and it was the central city-barque of Atlas that became the focus of the Raven Guard’s assault. Corax led the operation in person, accompanied by Commanders Branne Nev and Agapito Nev, directing an infiltration force of several hundred Raven Guard onto Atlas. The attack was supported by loyalist Mechanicum forces of the Legio Nivalis, whose Warlord Titan Castor Terminus engaged the forge world’s defences while the Legion seized the city-barque from within. Having secured Atlas, Corax pursued Delvere personally, fighting through a number of Defilers that barred his path before confronting Azor Nathrakin, a Word Bearers sorcerer and possessed legionary. Corax defeated Nathrakin by casting him into a warp portal, and went on to kill Delvere himself, ending the magos’s rule of the forge world. Corax withdrew after the city-barque’s fall, but left kill teams on Constanix II to continue the fight. In the months that followed, loyalist and traitor forces contested the remaining barge-cities through aerial duels between the sailing vessels and repeated combat drops, until the greater part of the barge-cities had been captured or destroyed and the forge world was restored to Imperial rule. The episode is recounted in the novella Corax: Soulforge.
