Battle of Cyrene

The Battle of Cyrene was the closing action of the Third Aurelian Crusade, fought on the dead world of Cyrene in Subsector Aurelia late in M41. A decade of civil war between Blood Ravens loyal to Gabriel Angelos and those who followed the corrupted Chapter Master Azariah Kyras had led the Ordo Malleus to condemn the whole subsector to Exterminatus, and Captain Apollo Diomedes, recommended by Angelos to Inquisitor Adrastia, had been charged with proving the Chapter’s innocence. With the Exterminatus under way, Kyras withdrew to Cyrene, the former recruiting world purged years before, where his ascension as a daemon prince of Khorne was discovered by Blood Ravens under Angelos and Diomedes arriving as reinforcements. In the fighting Kyras cost Angelos his right eye and both legs. Diomedes defeated and slew Kyras, then lifted Angelos’s broken body from the debris. The victory ended the Chapter’s civil war and lifted the charge of treachery from the loyalist Blood Ravens. After a purge of the tainted elements of the Chapter, Angelos, rebuilt with augmetic legs and an augmetic eye, was acclaimed Chapter Master in Kyras’s place.
