Battle of Gorro
The Battle of Gorro was fought in the thirtieth millennium, during the Great Crusade, on the Ork world of Gorro in the Telon Reach. Gorro served as the capital of a province within the Ork empire of Ullanor, the largest Ork realm the Crusade had yet encountered. The Imperium knew it as a scrapworld: an artificial, mobile planetoid raised by Ork Mekboyz from salvaged debris and scrap, its mass held together and driven by a plasma reactor buried at its core. Imperial forces under the Emperor and Horus descended upon Gorro to cleanse it of its Ork populace. In the course of the fighting, a warboss of immense size fell upon the Emperor in a killing frenzy, seizing him by the throat. Horus struck away the creature’s arm and, fighting alongside the Emperor, helped bring it down. Accounts of the deed frame it as a debt repaid: at the Siege of Reillis the Emperor had saved Horus’s life as the two fought back to back, and at Gorro Horus returned the favour. With the warboss slain and Ork resistance broken in spirit, the planetoid’s plasma reactor failed, and Gorro was destroyed. Ullanor itself would fall to the Imperium in the later Ullanor Crusade, after which Horus was raised to Warmaster.
